Order In the Courtroom Tour
By NiedriaKenny on July 02, 2014
As I embarked on the second leg of my book tour alone, I had time to reflect and meditate on the success and the things that were in store for the Baby, The Brand and The Business. I was especially excited about the invite to NYC to partially cover the American Black Film Festival as well as be a part of it myself. It was a surreal experience to know that the novel I gave birth to, had grown into a screenplay with the potential of hitting the big screen soon. Speaking with producers, directors, filmography’s and other professionals in the film, television network industry; gave me a second wind to see this project through to the end. I was encouraged to complete the final editing, secure marketing and branding experts who could assist with the process. I was given the opportunity to place my screenplay as well as novel in the hands of notables in order to received feedback. It was an honor to do a table read along with other aspiring writers and film directors. Even though I made contact with most of them last year at the ABFF Miami, I was strictly on work assignment but was able to gain insight on how to complete my own project. This year, speaking with Spike Lee, Phylicia Rashad, Omari Hardwick, Robert Townsend, Jeff Friday, Chris Spencer, Kevin Hart and Bill Duke, just to name a few; added new dimension to my project.
While in NYC, I satisfied another four cities along the 20CityBookTour. In that, I held three extremely successful book signings and speaking engagements. (Southbysouthwest, Harlem Tavern, Bryant Park) I secured endorsements and advertising. I was offered many treats from the city as a welcome, glad you came and please enjoy your stay. S/O to Cadillac, M&M'S World, Hershey's and Nike.
Each city I travel to on this 20 city tour, I hoped to gain more momentum... I am excited to say that I have done just that. It is always nice to go places where your story has in some way had an impact on one. While the tour is all inclusive of the five books I have written as well as an introductory into the screenplay, I realize that telling this recent story has made a mark on many. It is the one that everyone is talking about.
Order In the courtroom was inspired by real, actual events. When I tour under this title, I tour without my son so that I do not display any of the emotions that writing this book brings out. I tap into actual feelings and I venture back to a place in time--in order to bring my reader through and out of the valley. I do not want my son to see the pain behind the words of truth. I do not want him to know how a judicial system has failed us and how his father was/and still is the motivating factor behind it. I only want my child to experience the joys of life in this stage. I believe he will learn in due time what the book is all about as well as the documented proof behind it all. I reserve nothing but happiness and smiles for him and is also why when he's with me, it's all about his book, Prince Cornelius and His Magical Friends.
NYC was seven days of pure bliss for me. Even the recounting of details and expending energy to a story that brought dark clouds, it was the reward of the faces that were touched by the story which inspired me to keep talking. Freely Speaking. The reward was learning that there are more for me than against me. The reward was being able to tell this story, show it on film and answer any questions about it’s content. It was therapy. To know that I don’t stand alone in this political fight inside the courtroom, brought tears to my eyes. Tears of Joy!
