In all honesty, I watched the 83rd Annual Academy Awards just to see if Banksy was going to make an appearance. Sadly, he did not, nor did he win for best documentary as I had hoped ...but since I'm here to do a fashion recap, I'll get straight to it.

My pick for Best Dressed of the night, HANDS DOWN, goes to Gwyneth Paltrow.

...and coming in a very close second and third, Cate Blanchett and Reese Witherspoon.

Cate's dress was so intricate and so different and so gorgeous I found that I just wanted to stare at it forever to take it all in. I just loved it. Reese's look was very classic, but with her big '60s hair and bright green earrings, she just looked stunning.

I find that it's easier for me to really sort through all the gowns by grouping similarities together so I will do so here and now by color. Without further ado, the color trends on the Red Carpet were:

Red Gowns:

Worn by Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Lawrence (who looked SMOKIN' HOT), Anne Hathaway, and Jennifer Hudson.

White Gowns:

Worn by Michelle Williams, Melissa Leo, Nicole Kidman, and Celine Dion (I actually loved Celine's dress).

Purple-y/Plum/Lavender Gowns:

Worn by the lovelies Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, and Mila Kunis.

Deep Grays:

Worn by Annette Bening and Helen Mirren.

Sparkly Metallics:

Worn by Mandy Moore, Hilary Swank, Gwyneth Paltrow and Halle Berry.

Navy Blue and Black:

Worn by Amy Adams (who would have been a top contender for me had she not worn that necklace), Marisa Tomei, Helena Bonham Carter and Reese Witherspoon.

Best accessory of the night? YOUR MOM!

It seemed like everyone had their mums on their arm tonight, which is just adorable! But the most stand-out trend of the night seemed to be bright jewels, specifically green drop earrings worn by Reese Witherspoon, Annette Bening, Busy Phillips and a few more randoms I spied in the audience.

I have to say that I really loved the pop of green but it was all too reminiscent of Angelina Jolie a few years ago in that drop-dead gorgeous black gown and those stunning emerald green drop earrings? Deja vu, no?

I'm just going to lump all the men in one group and say they looked ravishing tonight but the few who stood out, in my humble opinion, of course were Justin Timberlake in Tom Ford (but I am biased towards Justin and Tom) and Russell Brand for looking like a rock star on the red carpet ... even though he isn't really one.

Admittedly, I loved all but one of Anne's dresses (the red one) and thought her tux for her little song and dance number was just adorable. That blue gown towards the end and the lace Tom Ford at the finale just took the cake for me, but I still choose Gwyneth as overall Best Dressed.

As for Worst Dressed -- it's a bit strange to say, but I don't really have one. My one pet peeve was with Jennifer Hudson's halter dress, which did nothing for her cleavage. It just wasn't flattering ...and I think she's lost too much weight now to boot.

All in all, I thought Anne Hathaway and James Franco did a pretty good job. The faces James was making throughout the night made me giggle and wonder if he was sneaking off to the green

Well I must say that I think Reese Witherspoon, Anne Hathaway, & Mila Kunis looked FAN-TASTIC! Very Oscar ready, elegant and looking absolutley gorgeous. I think that Angelina Jolie, Scarlet Johansen & Helena Carter looked just plain OLD. Old fashioned, dull and outdated. But overall it was nice to see to host (regardless of what everyone had to say about John Franco) actually host an awards shows with better taste then recent events.

No slave to fashion, I do totally love the "best/worst" dressed lists of the awards shows. I think the category "worst hair dye" should be added!

Thanks for making it easier for us to decide on which stands out.. Reese's look is simply gorgeous. After all, she doesn't need too much to look pretty..

For the red group, I like Sandra's (because it fits her body type) and of course, Anne Hathaway's, because she always knows what looks great on her.

Although, yes, the green-and-black combo isn't too original anymore. I've seen it on Angie and lifo.com.

I have to say, orange is my favorite color. So to see Jennifer Hudson totally owning it made my fashion night. She looked so stunning in that dress, and I just wanted to run out and find something, anything in that juicy tangerine to match!

In the "what dress would I wear (and have the figure to wear it)" fantasy, I loved Gwyneth and Cate's gowns. Reese's was like a black tie take on Belle de Jour - and I loved the ponytail.

I lost count on Hathaway's wardrobe changes but that blue dress was great on camera. What was that material?

You and I have the same taste! My best-dressed were Halle, Gwyneth, Cate and Reese. I thought Cate B.'s dress was a stunning, fashion-forward confection and those who didn't like it, didn't "get" the couture-ness of it. I did not like Jennifer Hudson's dress at all -- it did not seem current at all, except for the color. Too much red overall. I loved Natalie Portman in Rodarte; hated ScarJo's bordello look. Worst dressed for me was Marisa Tomei -- the dress did not flatter her. Also Annette Bening looked too mother-of-the-bride for me.

I loved the bottom of Hilary's dress ...the gradient gray/purple feather thing was pretty ...and so true about Annette's boobs ...I'm still swooning from Warren's sweet words about her on the red carpet :)

I agree actually ...I LOVED Amy Adams dress ...and even the green glitz on her wrist, but the necklace threw the whole look off for me. She would have been in my top three had she not worn that necklace.

HA! I kind of thought the same thing about Reese's gown ...total 90's prom dress ...but overall, I think she looked lovely

I thought Gwyneth Paltrow looked like she was wearing an ironing board. Annette Bening's dress looked like a costume from Spiderman. Helen Mirren -- exquisite as always, and I loved Amy Adams's deep sapphire gown with the emerald jewelry.

..peopled liked Amy Adams in her sequined midnight blue dress, as well as the dame Helen Mirren (elegant and beautiful as always).

There was definitely some back and forth ( http://womensvoicesforchange.org/opening-post-wvfc... ) on the color for Jennifer Hudson's dress.

I'm pretty sure Reese's dress is a repurposed late 1990s prom gown. Seriously. I think my best friend wore it to homecoming. Not impressed with that one at all.

Looking at all of these just now (I didn't watch), I'd have to agree with the Gwynneth nod. My Grandma would disagree (OMG! TWO LOW CUT! SLIT TOO HIGH! TOO SHINY! WOE!), but that's okay.

Gwyneth's dress took the cake for me for sure, but Hilary Swank's (pew) feather-y number caught my eye here, although I didn't really notice it last night. Annette Bening's boobs were up too high.
