To my observation, people--or women, in this case--cut their hair short, lots of times, because of 'pain' and/or big happiness.
One close example, my best friend cut her hair real short after she broke up with her boyfriend. She even changed her tomboy style into a feminine one.
And I did cut my hair short recently, not long after I quit my day job.
I wonder what's going on with us, women, and our hair, and our feelings. Don't you feel some kind of mystery in it?
My decision to cut my hair was as a kind of symbol of freedom or something, but I still can't really comprehend why it has to be represented by the hair.
Anyone willing to explain or shoot a perspective?

I think it's very potent as an external symbol of internal change.
how we wear our hair is a symbol to ourselves and to others - 'i am at work' 'this is a special occasion' 'i am a rebel' 'i believe in modesty'. these are all things we can say with our hair.
if you aren't offended by bad language, check out the song 'haircut' by australian band 'the waifs'. its a very funny, poignant break up song.
I know what's with the hair
I tend to notice that too now that I read your blog. how our hair changes when our life changes. I recently dyed my hair red because I wanted a change. It had been blonde and short for a while first I did that after I broke up with my boyfriend now my hair is red and long I wanted a change I wanted to be diffrent. But you make a very good point!
