Own Your Beauty Host Blogger: Caitlin Boyle of Operation Beautiful

BlogHer Original Post

Caitlin Boyle

Caitlin is a health and fitness blogger who believes the online community can inspire woman (and men!) to lead their healthiest, best lives -- both mentally and physically. Her blog, HealthyTippingPoint, receives more than 800,000 hits a month from people who are looking for inspiration from her "Everywoman" attitude about exercise. Her recipes are well-known in the blog community for being easy, healthy, and unique; for example: Pancake Truffles!

After a year of blogging at Healthy Tipping Point, Caitlin recognized a need for an affirming, powerful self-esteem movement, and Operation Beautiful was born. Featured on The Today Show and the Oprah Winfrey Network (see the clip at the link), the Operation Beautiful blog (which has been turned into a book), asks women to post anonymous notes in public places encouraging a more positive outlook. The messages -- which include sayings such as "Scales measure weight, not worth!" and "You are beautiful just the way you are" -- have become a community art project of self-esteem power. Thousands of people have participated from all over the world, including China, Germany, Iraq, Brazil, and South Africa.

Caitlin worked with four other healthy living bloggers to organize the Healthy Living Summit, which took place in 2009 and 2010 in Boston and Chicago, respectively. This weekend-long conference is an opportunity for bloggers and readers to meet in person and attend workshops such as "Organic Dairy Farming," "Stopping the Comparison Trap," and "Issues in the Blog World." Caitlin played a key role in logistical organization, sponsorship, and event planning for the 200+ person event.
