When plain old recycled notebooks won't do, there's the "post post consumer" Papergeist notebook. The cover: a vintage record sleeve. The pages: previously used paper, folded so you can use just the clean side!
Aside from the spiral cord binding, everything here is post-consumer -- with no additional paper mill involved. And perhaps best of all, since vintage record sleeves are hard to come by in bulk, each journal is totally unique.

And mine is very uniquely sexy. Rest assured, though, that G-rated covers are available. My friend Summer -- who sells these notebooks at her online eco-boutique BTC Elements -- gave me this one as a holiday present. I think she was a tad afraid to put this cover on her website....
I, however, am not -- perhaps because I'm not selling it. I'm not sure what to use it for yet. To record erotic dreams, maybe? Since the Dali exhibit, I have renewed interest in starting a dream journal....
Once I'm done with the journal, all the paper can be recycled again, of course -- though this time, via the blue bin system involving a paper mill. And best of all, the coil too can be sent back to papergeist -- 501 W. 124th Ave., Tampa, FL 33612 -- for $5 off a new notebook! Take it out carefully so it can be reused! You can participate in this creative recycling by sending in old record sleeves too!

Papergeist isn't alone in using pre-loved materials as covers. Ivy Lane Designs creates notebooks from discarded boxes, as I found out via the girly CraftGossip blog. Their paper's the "usual" recycled paper though, not one-side-used paper.
Which perhaps explains why Papergeist's fan base is growing fast. Amy Anderson nominated papergeist for Cooper Hewitt's People's Design Award, noting that the journals "spark conversation in my middle school classroom." Wanna keep track of the greenest journals and notebooks ever? Follow Papergeist's own myspace blog, updated by one Susan Janvrin, one of the makers of these notebooks .

You can pick your cover too!
If you go on the papergeist website, you can even pick the exact cover you want -- along with what you want the inside pages to look like (blank, lined, agenda style, etc). Happy scribbling :)

awesome
So glad you're enjoying your book. Congrats on having so many erotic dreams- that's great! Yes, dream journals are not only fun to look back through, but once you get in the habit, they help you to recall the most minute details.
We really appreciate the review, thank you.

So, inspired
I am still in love with this product..... I posted a LITTLE blurb about it in my bolg on JUST CAUSE, and another cool project i found on that bread crumb trail somehow.
So, I put a question at the bottom of that blog post: WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE RE-USED PRODUCTS?
My hope is to build a massive list of re-used crafty products that are innovative, cool and keeping things out of landfills. We are planning on building a store called JUST SHOPPING (tm) on the JUST CAUSE IT site, and will need people to help us find all the cool, funky, indie stuff that we won't find on our own. (We'll get all the big stuff figured out, the mainstream eco products...)
So, if you have a favorite re-eused / recycled product, will you post it as a comment on this blog post, Recycled Love . PLEASE feel free to cross-post, to promote your blog or your products. This is about creating a close-knit community of people trying to save the world, not about "owning" a market. So promote your eco blog- your eco product, your eco business.... And help us make a big list. It will trun into a directory and then a store..... And we will work to promote you indie eco business folk.
