A peek into an artist's blogroll

I've mentioned before my addiction to art and design -- it's a sickness, really.  I follow about 200 blogs daily, and a considerable percentage of them are written by artists.  When you follow that many, you start to think, of course, you've cornered the market on great artist's blogs, until you start to realize that's a pretty arrogant mindset, given that there are just so many artists and so many blogs out there.

In an attempt to find some more fabulous bloggers, I decided to turn to some of my favourite artists on the internet, and see who they're inspired by.  Naturally, the results were amazing.  And so, I thought that I would start a regular monthly feature, picking some of my favourite artists, and sharing some of the blogs they follow.

I've mentioned pia jane bijkerk before, a really talented stylist who splits her time between Sydney and Paris, when she's not living on -- get this -- her houseboat in Amsterdam.  Doesn't it sound like a fabulous life?  Here's some more about her

As a young girl growing up in Australia, she spent days rearranging her bedroom, shaping entire tableware sets out of backyard clay, and clicking away at the world with a secondhand camera she got as an 8th birthday present. In 1998 she graduated college with a degree in photography and film and opened a boutique filled with global treasures—from organic sheets and soaps, to beautifully crafted teak furniture from Indonesia. She sold the shop in 2003 and spent some time contemplating her life’s true calling. Film? Photography? More retail? Until one fateful day, while enjoying a picnic by the ocean, her friend turned to her and said, “You should be a stylist.” To which Pia replied: “What’s that?”

She's so amazingly talented.  And even more insight, here are some of the lovely blogs Pia follows:

2 or 3 things i know -- A beautiful blog on design, architecture and craft, Cerre combs the internet for beautiful design so you don't have to.

forty-sixth at grace -- Another gorgeous blog, "curated" by Nikole, featuring some really soulful photography.

52 suburbs -- I really love the concept behind this blog:  the artist is featuring one suburb of Sydney, Australia per week, and photographing the beauty she finds.  Awesome.

I love it when I find people making the internet a more beautiful place, don't you?

Great resource.  I am happy to find 2 or 3 Things' blog.  Cerre has a simple approach, saying very little and allowing the reader to interpret.  It's a challenge to "read" when the design, art craft inspirations aren't synthesized for me.  I'll have to hit the books!
