Pet Toys High Risk for Staph & MRSA

Pet Toy Risk Staph and MRSAWe all love to see our pets having fun with their favorite toys.  But did you know that playing with your pet's squeaky toys and ropes can expose you and your family to serious illness? It's true. A study by NSF International (a public health and environmental organization) found that our pet's toys are a huge source of both staph and antibiotic-resistant staph, as well as yeast, mold and coliform. It's recommended that hard pet toys be cleaned once per month with hot, soapy water, rinsed thoroughly, then disinfected with a mild bleach rinse, and then thoroughly rinsed again with clean hot water.  This should remove any bacteria and residue and keep everyone safe. Soft pet toys should be laundered in the washer on the hot water cycle. Better safe than sorry!
