Pickles & Bacon

Based on the title alone I'm going to guess one of two things is going through your head. Some of you are saying 'yuck' not interested. Some of you are saying 'tried it' or a variation of it and LOVE it.
This is a recipe we've been grilling since I was a little girl. Let's actually call it a combination as it doesn't seem complicated enough to be called a recipe. Pickles and bacon. If you like both of those food items but have never tried them together...you're missing out!
Obviously, it's incredibly easy to make. Take pickles - usually some type of dill spear. Then grab some bacon. Both can be whatever kind you choose. My family is partial to Hormel Bacon.
Next, cut the bacon in half. Cut the dill spear in half. Wrap the bacon around the dill spear. Add a toothpick inserted through to hold it together. Some people suggest soaking your toothpicks in water first so they don't burn. I've never done that and sure the ends may burn down a bit but I've never had any major issues with it.
Then place them on the grill. The grease from the bacon cooking can cause a bit of a grease fire from time to time so keep that in mind and be careful.
Rotate them on the grill at least once. Cook the bacon as long as you like. Some people like their bacon well done and crispy and others prefer it just cooked through.
I prefer mine well done and crispy! Keep in mind that since the bacon is wrapped it may take longer for the bacon next to the pickle to get cooked. Just pull it from the grill once the bacon is cooked to your liking.
The finished product looks something like this. Don't forget to remove the toothpick before eating!
I have made this combination for many people. I've never heard any complaints and everyone is always amazed at how good it tastes. When people come over and I say we're making pickles and bacon (along with a main dish of course) I always hear cheers!
