Lk. 12:49-49 In a church in Houston there is a very large picture of Jesus hanging above the altar. He is about six feet tall and naked, covered only by floating burial clothes. His face is handsome and clean shaven and behind him a great red cloud erupts from the earth. The face of Jesus is the face of the artist's son who was executed for murder. Whatever your views on the death penatly, it's an arresting image. It is almost as polarizing as Jesus himself, who came to upend our expectations, to divide and rebuke us--he is right there--asking something of us--forcing us to pay attention.
