The Plague Has Descended....

Unfortunately, I don't feel much like writing today; but I did accept the NaBloPoMo blog post a day challenge, and today is only day 8. I refuse to give up, much less this early on in the challenge.

The plague has descended on my household. Okay.... maybe not the plague.... probably more like the flu or some other ugly virus... but it might as well be the plague. I mean it sure feels like the plague. Oh the joys of low grade fever, stomach aches, that wonderful sick to your stomach feeling, and complete lack of energy.  Con woke up with it first. I knew he wasn't trying to get out of school. He is my studious son, and takes school and attendance very seriously. I told him to stay home and get some rest, then I went to work. A couple of hours into my work day I received a call from the middle school. Number 2 son was throwing up in the nurses office. So off I went to pick him up. Lucky for me at times like this I have the ability to work from home.

When we got home I found Con had sequestered himself in his room, alternating between watching television and hibernation. I say hibernation, because when he sleeps, at times I truly believe not even an atom bomb could wake him up. Since he is 17, I left him to his devices, knowing full well that sleep was what he needed. I also knew that if he needed anything, drinks, etc, he is self reliant enough to get it, or at least ask me to get it.

Nick made his way to the couch. Of course I made him a nice, cosy space complete with his pillow, blanket, and hedgehogs. Yes, you read that right. Nick has three identical hedgehog beanie babies. He has had these as long as I can remember. They are his comfort item. Some people, have pillows, others security blankets, others mementos from a time they felt safe and loved. For my Nick it is these hedgehogs. As he has gotten older, he has relied less and less on them, but when he is sick they truly make him feel better. I gave Nick his orders, he could sleep; or if he felt up to it, watch television, or read. The mandate was absolutely no video games. When he accepted that with no fight, I knew he was sick. Nick spent the day alternating between sleep, and the designated activities.

This morning, Con woke up still not 100% but he decided to give school the old college try. I am happy to report that he made it through his day and is obviously feeling more spritely. How do I know this? I know, because he has requested permission to go a visiting tonight... aka he wants to go see his girlfriend. So after running an errand for me to the grocery store, (ahhhh the beauty of having another driver in the house), he has permission to go.

Nick woke up and still had a low grade fever, and stomach issues. That warranted another day on the couch for him. The problem is, that when I woke up this morning and went downstairs to get Ethan out the door, the plague reared it's ugly head for me. Yup, as I walked down the steps, I felt light headed and sick to my stomach. I was also alternating between hot and cold. So after Ethan left, I went back upstairs, opened my laptop, sent and email to work saying that I would be working from home. Then I proceeded to do just that, in my pajamas, from bed. Yes, I admit it, I even attended a daily telconference in my boxers and t shirt, sans make up and with complete bed head.

As long as I stayed in bed, I did okay. Every time I had to go downstairs to check on Nick and make sure he had what he needed, the light headed feeling returned and I felt all of my energy drain out of me.  I can report, however, that I made it through the work day without falling asleep once. Yeah Me!!! Now all I need to do is make it through the rest of the evening. I still have to get the boys fed, and setup for the morning. I am not sure that I have ever looked forward to 8 pm so much. All I know is that 8 pm I will be off the clock and I can

I hope the plague is gone from your home as fast as it visited. I have feeling it has also descended on my home and it doesn't look pretty.
