I am currently in a beautiful place, courtesy of my fiancé’sparents.  They own a summer home in the vacation town of Marmaris, Turkey. It is lovely.  They actually just bought a bigger home here so thatmy fiancé and I could have more privacy.  They are lovely people. Really.  And very thoughtful.  And because of this for the lifeof me I cannot understand why me fiancé’s mother was POISONING me.  Sheknows I have nut allergies, and has been very careful in the past.

To preface this story, I have IBS, an intestinal condition thatcan cause pain and discomfort along with other bowel issues.  I will leaveit at that.  It tends to be triggered by stress.  However, I am notstressed, and could not understand why I was in such discomfort.  One daythe pain was so bad I could not get out of bed.    This has beengoing on for two weeks.  It came to the point my fiancé was not sure thatwe should consider children if the stress would impact my health so severely.

I couldn't understand what was happening in my body.  I wasdoing everything in my power to be healthy.  No greasy food, low fat, noalcohol, low sugar, meditation.  Nothing helped.   Then I saw hercook dinner one night.  Hazelnut oil?  In our food?  I asked herwhat she had put it in.  EVERYTHING SHE HAD COOKED since I had arrived intown. (I know it sounds petty that I am complaining about food I did not cook, but we have a division of labor, and she cooks, I do salads, setup up and cleanup.)

When I told her she seemed apologetic, and stopped usingthe oil, but acted like it was no big deal, I am pissed.  I was extremelyworried about my health.  I thought my condition was getting worse. My fiancé and I had several uncomfortable talks about the future based onmy health.  How did it not occur to her that cooking exclusively with nutoil to I am allergic to would be a problem.  She usually points outdesserts to me that have hazelnuts in them and tells me not to eat them. I don't understand.  Though I finally found out what was making mesick.  As soon as I stopped eating food prepared with the nut oil I wasfine.  No pain, “no issues."  But it was a bad twoweeks.  And I don't know why.
