Presidential Pumpkins
by Denise

Every Halloween, since the dawn of the internets, I've been sent email forwards and weblinks that contained links to presidential pumpkins. Every year I've kind of shrugged and said "whatever". I don't get it. But maybe that's because I try really hard not to get overly emotional about political figures. A politician is a politician is a politician and I would never carve a pumpkin to resemble one - not to be scary, or supportive or sarcastic. My brand of humor (or Halloween celebration) just doesn't run in that direction.

Remember back in that first Month of Pumpkins post when I asked people to send me pumpkin ideas and links? Well people have done that. A lot of people. Many of those emails, tweets and facebook messages have contained links to presidential pumpkin carving. Like... 12 of the 50. Some people are a lot more passionate about presidential pumpkins than I am. Who knew?

Three people sent me the information that Better Homes & Gardens has stencils for all four candidates. You can also register with BH&G and "vote" for your favorite pumpkin stencil. Results will be released on October 29th, so hurry and cast your vote if you're into that sort of thing.

Four people sent me Yes We Carve. (I'm surprised that I only got four of these, though the people who sent them to me were very amusing and seemed much more enthusiastic about this link than the other people who sent me presidential pumpkin links. I guess that might say something, eh? Also, this site tends to run slow or go down completely at various times of the day. It's pretty popular, which also says something, doesn't it? Obama fans should keep refreshing if they don't get in the first time - those who aren't Obama fans may just want to skip it.)

If you're into a bit of presidential nostalgia, you can get patterns for Bill Clinton or go ahead and order a full pattern book of presidents. I'm sure there's one there who would meet your presidential pumpkin needs. We have had some pretty decent presidents in our past... haven't we?

Yes We Carve!

I think I need to see examples to really get to the heart of this wonderful post.

It would help me totally if you could carve a Yes We Carve pumpkin and post pics.
