Be sure to watch me on Wednesday, February 15 on CBS-5 in San Francisco at 7:20 pm, just before Judge Judy, where I'll be talking about heart health.
My mom had several small strokes in her later years from many factors. Her strokes were caused by small blood clots that traveled to her brain and caused loss of oxygen. One of the biggest risk factors for stroke is atherosclerosis causing plaques to build up in arteries.
When the plaque builds up in the Carotid arteries, located on both sides of the neck, then there's a risk that any blood clots will travel directly to the brain.
Here Dr. Hardeep Ahluwalia explains how they clean out the carotid arteries to prevent stroke.

I hope you'll join me for the Day of Dance on Saturday February 25th. This is part of a nationwide event to help all of us get up and get moving to reduce our risk of heart disease. I'm delighted to be working with El Camino Hospital to inform people about the incredible services available there, including their Heart and Vascular Institute.
