Summary of Changes to BlogHer, Inc. Privacy Statement

Dear users of BlogHer Web sites,

We want the BlogHer community to be built on trust. When BlogHer changes its Privacy Policy, we provide you with a summary of the material changes in this Change Log. Of course, this document is only a summary. You may also wish to review the modified policy against the previous policy. To make this possible, we have posted a version of the previous policy; this policy will be posted on our website for a period of at least 30 days.

We have revised our Privacy Statement as of January 10, 2011. While we did not materially alter any privacy protections, we revised the privacy policy to provide more detail and clarification on our collection and use of personal data so that you my have an even clearer understanding of how the data you provide to BlogHer is used. We at BlogHer work hard to gain and retain your trust, and believe our Privacy Statement reflects the reasonable expectations of our users. We provide this summary of changes to help support your review and understanding of BlogHer’s present privacy policies and practices. We think it’s important for you to read the full Privacy Statement, as you will be bound by its terms when you view, access or otherwise use the Site.

To assist your reading, the following list highlights the substantive revisions to the Privacy Statement. You will find a clean copy of the Privacy Statement here (dated Jan. 10, 2011), and a copy of the previous statement here (dated Feb. 8, 2008).

Introduction. We have extended the Privacy Statement to cover information collected by any other websites affiliated with BlogHer with authorized links to this policy, and we have added a link from BlogHerads.com to the Privacy Statement, so that the Statement now covers information collected on that site as well. We have also added a note that all or any portion of the Privacy Statement may be overridden by any other written agreement that you may enter into with BlogHer. We have added a reference to Section 9, which sets forth the procedure that we will follow in the event that we make any changes to the Privacy Statement in the future. Finally, we have added a provision informing our users that we adhere to the EU Safe Harbor Principles set forth by the United States Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use and retention of Personal Information from users located in the European Union.

Section 1(b) Voluntarily Provided Information. We have added more specific information regarding the different ways in which users may voluntarily provide us with Personal Information.

Section 1(c) Cookies. We have provided more detailed information about the use of cookies and similar devices by BlogHer and by our advertisers. We have also added directions on the steps a user can take to delete or control cookies on her website, as well as how to opt-out of behavioral advertising.

Section 1(f) Advertising. We have included more detailed information regarding the use of cookies by advertisers on our Site. Section 2(a) Use of Personal Information. BlogHer offers users the ability to forward an article to another person via email. We have noted that if you use this service, we will use the recipients email address to send the article and we will not use the recipient’s address for any other purpose.

Section 3 Disclosure of your Information. We have clarified that BlogHer does not sell Personal Information to third parties for any reason, and that we will not disclose Personal Information to unaffiliated third parties who may want to offer their own products and services unless a user has requested to authorize us to do so.

Section 3(f) Public Areas. We have added a warning that any information disclosed in public areas of the Site may be viewed and collected by any party and urging our users to exercise caution when disclosing information in these public areas.

Section 5 United States Law. We have added an acknowledgement by our non-U.S. users that, by visiting our Site and providing us with data, they are agreeing that their Personal Information may be processed for the purposes identified in the Privacy Statement and may be stored on servers located in counties that may have less stringent privacy practices than their resident jurisdictions.

Section 6 Security. We have expanded the description of the steps that we take to restrict access to our users’ Personal Information, along with an acknowledgement by our users that BlogHer cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information that they transmit to us.

Section 7 Dispute Resolution. We have asked any user who believes that we have not adhered to the Privacy Statement to include a description of the ways in which the Privacy Statement has not been complied within her e-mail notification to BlogHer.
