Quick and Pretty Summer Hair and Lipstick Style Boosts

BlogHer Original Post

Summer happens to be my favorite time of year (fall is a close second) -- but with summer comes heat and humidity, and the challenge of staying cool and looking chic. I love wearing easy, barely-there clothing like crop tops and shorts, but that doesn't leave much room to showcase my style.

After a fun day of frolicking in the ocean with my nephew last weekend, I was exhausted, and the last thing I wanted to do was put a lot of time into getting dressed. So I threw on this thrifted shorts set (a whopping 3 bucks), and I took full advantage of my two go-to summer beauty tricks that give any outfit an instant lift:

Summer lipstick shades

Throw on your favorite shade of lipstick

Whether it's vibrant and bold or simple and subtle, like the pale pink I'm wearing here, lipstick always upgrades the tone of an outfit. I like MAC; it’s very popular, and this is due in large part to their great selection of lipstick shades and finishes. My favorite MAC shades are Ruby Woo, a red shade with a matte finish, and Half & Half, a nude shade from their amplified collection.

Try "bedhead curls."

Because I'm a mom on the go, I don't have too much time to spend on my hair. One of my favorite things to do is section my hair, in no particular pattern, and use a flat iron and create loose curls -- you know, the kind of look that looks like it didn't take much effort. Guess what? It actually doesn't. Because I have chemical free/natural hair, the most important process for me is washing and conditioning. I love Design Essentials and Motions products for shampoo/conditioning, and Chi Silk Infusion oil for shine and heat protection.

There you have it...proof that having a great summer makeup look and an easy, pretty hair style doesn't have to take forever or break the bank!

So now that you know my secrets, it's only right that you tell me yours!!! I'm always looking for quick ways to finish off looks, and I'm sure you guys are, too :) I'm waiting...
