Quilt Con Austin in Pictures

BlogHer Original Post

This past week Austin was host to Quilt Con. I don't quilt, but I still had a swell time. What's not to like in a room of beautiful of handmade things, colorful fabric and clever crafty tools.

This was the shows maiden voyage and as someone who also produced large craft events at the Austin Convention Center I would say the show was a smashing success. So much to see and do.

As you can see, this was not your grandmother's quilt show. Though there were blue hairs standing side by side with pink hairs admiring the fine craftsmanship of all the gorgeous quilts on display.

One of my favorite booths at the show was Stitch Lab. This local sewing studio, fabric shop and all around fab craft school had a large booth that gave people a good idea about the awesomeness of their actual store.

Speaking of Stitch Lab, some of the quilts at the show made me want to sign up for a quilting class.

I attended Quilt Con with BlogHer blogger Betty Crafter. Here she and daughter Arlo proudly display her new crewel kit Happiness is Handmade.

It was so fun to visit so many stores like Super Buzzy who I typically frequent online. Craftsy, Spoonflower, Janome and more had booths.

Did I mention that Quilt Con also had lecturers and workshops. I was lucky enough to spend Monday afternoon with the author of Modern Log Cabin Quilting Susan Beal of West Coast Crafty.

So now Austin has BlogHer Food, Quilt Con, The Renegade Craft Fair, SXSW, Austin City Limits - geez the list goes on. Always an excuse to come and visit.
