Racist is as Racist does

You would think when the concept of being a racist became so abhorrent that people would try real damn hard not to be racist, lest they be tagged as a racist. Nope. Turns out racist people are still the same ol’ racist asshats, but when called on it they simply deny they are racist. They know racist is a bad word. They want the privilege of their racism without the determent of being labeled a negative term. Racists like wallowing in their privilege and sulk if it is impinged upon. Who knew?
let us look at a fine example of this phenomenon. Right-wing, Teabagger darling Cliven Bundy wanted to tell people “about the negro”. He said:
“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro,” he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, “and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids — and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch — they didn’t have nothing to do. They didn’t have nothing for their kids to do. They didn’t have nothing for their young girls to do.
“And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?” he asked. “They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”
There you have it folks. The slave-owner argument that black people were shiftless and couldn’t motivate themselves writ large in the 21st century coupled with the bullshit that black people are the ethnic group that uses the most government resources. While Bundy may be forgiven for being clueless that most people getting “handouts” from Uncle Sugar are white (he watches Fox news so of course he is ignorant as well as a jackass), the idea that black folks were better off as slaves is racist as all hell.
Bundy, and by association his right wing numbnut supporters, didn’t LIKE being called a racist. First Bundy said his words were taken out of context and the Media was just being mean to him like those negro-loving liberals from hell are prone to do to God fearing white Patriots. He whined that he was NOT a racist during an epic pity-party featuring yet more racist statements. He claimed he was just like Martin Luther King, Jr; trying to survive in a world out to take away his civil rights by making him pay grazing fees. His far right buddies jumped on board to defend his comments as not racist. They demanded (and got) video proof of Bundy saying the picking-cotton thing, even though if he did say it then it still wasn’t racist at all dammit. They had hissy fits and accused the left wing of playing the race card against poor widdle Bundy. No racist trope was left unsaid, and the far right capped it off with the extended dance mix of “Whaaa! Whaa! Whaa! “They” are attacking us for telling the truth! Woe!”
It would be funny if it weren’t so disgusting.
