Once upon a time we could be shocked. And we were when Roseanne Barr arrived on the media scene. I remember her debut on Carson in '85. Johnny knew funny and she was; not fussed with pretty and pretentious, forget feminine wiles, bring on the class warfare cuz Roseanne Barr's a 2nd amendment, straight shooting kind of gal. Roseseane1

In '86, David Letterman, by '87 she was crowned funniest female.   Punchlines weren't so much delivered as admitted, point black, hard boiled.  No veneer necessary, her package delivered w/out wrapping or ribbon.  She was kinda like an updated version of W. C. Fields.

Then, "The Roseanne Barr Show", raw, packed with all topics taboo. Acting was slightly unnecessary as Roseanne preferred the mirror, not unlike Dawn Powell, two truthtellers, women intent on suggesting 'satire' lends to deeper meaning, not far-fetched, just further along.

Barbara Ehrenreich called Barr a working-class spokesperson representing "the hopeless underclass of the female sex: polyester-clad, overweight occupants of the slow track; fast-food waitresses, factory workers, housewives, members of the invisible pink-collar army; the despised, the jilted, the underpaid,"[11] but a master of "the kind of class-militant populism that the Democrats, most of them anyway, never seem to get right."[12] Barr refuses to use the term "blue collar" because it masks the issue of class.[13]

Roseannearchy

I've no idea what's transpired since but Roseanne's promoting a new book called Roeannearchy, a roller-coaster ride of a life. Naturally she lives on a nut farm in Hawaii, an island I've visited for weddings. A state of mind, a place so pretty it puts me to sleep. A paradise for many, perhaps to remove all forms of chaos.

She makes me ponder how certain people are chosen as the channel or the messenger, somehow reminding us of life's mystery. Roseanne provides the conduit for many with her stream of consciousness, unfiltered and full of solidarity.  For those in search of 'authenticity', she teaches her own master class.

Politically she lives somewhere in the murky middle, some kind of cobbled together socialism, willing to talk to anyone and everyone, including Alex Jones. The interview is fantastic and they're surprised how much they have in common.

Who knows why the angels speak through Aretha Franklin or Miles Davis, who knows how they perform their magic, sing those songs, play those instruments and say such things in that way..all I know is that I'm listening and laughing along the way...Roseanne3
