ray of inspiration
You sit down at your computer workspace and hold your hands in front of you, wiggling your fingers as if you are a pro athlete limbering limbs before a competition. Satisfied with your comfort and dexterity, fingers alight on the keyboard, honouring your good intention to write for four hours.
Before you type a letter, you look around and take in the setting. An angular stream of early morning sun shines into the smallish home office, the ray’s radiant heat teasing at you to turn on the air conditioner. You do, partly from a desire to keep your home cool, and partly out of writing procrastination.
Two days ago, you wrapped up a story in whatever form you consider complete, and yesterday you decided to start on new story writing this morning. Between story’s end and story’s beginning, you devoted no time to picking a subject, yet here you are, committed to your craft and save for the brief interlude to fire up the a/c, ready to start.
Where is your first sentence coming from, and once you have it down on paper, what doors, if any will the words unlock for you?
I'm keeping this short for this week. When you create, where do you go from there?
