Hi there!
This is my first day here, and because I have been trying to lose weight unsuccessfully for so many years and in so many ways, I have decided to start a weight-loss blog to document my journey from now on - wherever it may be taking me. Most successful weight-loss stories do not tell you about the daily bumps on the road, only the result. And for me, the "getting there" is important. Because it may not always be easy, there may be holidays, vacations, PMS, trouble at work, leftovers of a good meal, you name it.
My name is Nina, I have just become 31, and I have been trying to become thin for 18 years now. And, as you may guess, I have become bigger and bigger. I lost about 55 lbs. 4 years ago - which was good, but definitely not enough - but gained about 28 of them back on. So my highest weight was 265 lbs., my actual weight now is 238, and my height 5 ft 11 inches. My goal weight, however, is 148. So, there are about 90 lbs. to go. Well, 10 lbs. would also make me quite happy at the moment, or even 5.
I am slowly changing my goal to "healthy and contented", not necessarily "thin", as thin is only a by-product of a problem-solving process. And I also found out that thin people do not necessarily live healthily. So I think it is better to solve two problems in one go.
I am trying Weight Watchers right now, in combination with Julia Havey's "Vice-Busting Diet". Julia is a great motivatress, something Weight Watchers can't give me as I am an emotional eater and need more than just a bit of motivation. Julia has definitely been there and managed to keep her weight off for over 12 years now, so I think she must be doing something right.
Weight Watchers, however, seems to me the best way to keep amounts of food in check, even better than counting calories. It is very easy to learn and once you have learned it, you can keep it forever. And it allows you to eat from all food groups, so that you can get back on track quite easily.
I have just discovered another source of motivation: Roni's Weigh, another weight-loss blog. Roni is a young mother who has also "been there", is successfully maintaining her goal weight and also gives great advice on cooking on her website.
My next entries will become more topical as I presume it is easier to read about a topic than confused weight-loss entries.
Love,
Nina
