[Editor's Note: I've never understood why people complain about the break that teachers get in the summer. Putting up with the world's children five days a week for 180 days is not my idea of a cup of tea. Recently, Halala Mama wrote about the reasons that teachers need a vacation. Here's hoping that she has a wonderful summer, as well as the rest of you teachers out there! -Jenna]

Why Do Teachers Need Summer:

Teachers Need SummerBecause sometimes a little boy needs a nap on a mama who is not mentally planning lessons, grading papers, or balancing a computer on her knees.

Well that and the fact that even Steven King described teaching in this way…”I liked my colleagues and I loved the kids… but by most Fridays I felt as if I’d spent the week with jumper cables attached to my brain.”

That is a great expanation. Love the coffee on the cereal story. But you don't have to make excuses to me. Personally, if I was locked in a room with 25 children and expected to teach them things on top of taking care of all their individual wants, needs and quirks I would need more than a vacation. By the end of the first week I would need an institution. Love you guys for having what it takes to do one of the hardest jobs around!
