The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond, was on The View this morning, discussing recipes from her new cookbook, Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl.

Ree explained why she includes sometimes up to 50 photographs in her cooking posts (see an example in her recent post on vanilla bean scones). "I would never buy a cookbook that didn't have a finished photo. And so when I started my Web site, I started posting ... I took that a few steps farther. Sometimes I post 50 photos for one recipe ... you can, in the middle, check yourself and make sure you're not messing up too badly."

If you missed the episode, check back here later today to watch.

What's your favourite Pioneer Woman recipe? And if you haven't yet tried out one of her dishes, which food bloggers do you turn to for cooking inspiration?

Melissa writes Stirrup Queens and Lost and Found. Her book is Navigating the Land of If.

Can you make them vegetarian? Or would it just not be the same thing? I was considering making them and tweaking them to be bacon-free.

That's what I have to do with food blogs. And then I bookmark the individual recipes and save them so I can see the pictures when I go to cook.

I love Ree's site and the pictures are always helpful. I like to print off her text only portion then I use the pictures as a guide.
How many times I have made food and it looked nothing like the end photograph- me not being a food stylist and all. I come pretty darn close with Ree's recipe though!

My favorite recipe is probably the Comfort Meatballs -- or maybe her brisket.

I have a love/hate relationship with this book. I love most of the recipes (though I've made very few of her desserts), but I hate, hate, HATE the step-by-step pictures. For this reason, I like the blog much better than the book. I can scroll past all the pictures and just print the recipe. In the book not only do I have to deal with all the pictures, but there's no recipe summary at the end.

When I started cooking pictures in a cookbook were few and far between. To me, this need for pictures shows exactly how much the ability to cook and cooking knowledge has decreased in just a few decades.

An interesting point about that need (or lack of need) for pictures. I wonder if it's a better cookbook for a beginner cook--someone just starting out cooking for themselves. With more experienced chefs able to use the recipes.
