Remembering the Search Dogs of 9/11

BlogHer Original Post

As an homage to the search and rescue dogs of 9/11, Explore.org and Dog Bless You will be releasing a short film profiling Abby, the last remaining Search Disaster Foundation (SDF) dog who served at Ground Zero .

The film features SDF Executive Director Debra Tosch, who was one of the handlers deployed on September 11th. Her dog Abby is the last remaining SDF Search Dog who served at Ground Zero. After 9/11, Debra and Abby deployed to a number of disasters, including Hurricane Katrina and the La Conchita mudslide.

As one of the nation’s most highly skilled Search Dogs, Abby helped train many SDF Canine Search Specialists, showing them “how it’s done” as they prepared to receive their own rescued dog…turned rescuer.

On this day of remembrance, this short film is worth a view to remember all who helped us recover from this horrific event, both two-legged and four.
