For writers or aspiring writers there's a big double-edged sword here too. While we don't have a billable hourly rate, time is still money. Trouble is, there are many out there who want you to write in exchange for links or "for exposure". It's very hard to turn someone down who wants advice on how to get an agent or get published, but if you're being asked to edit a book just because someone likes your writing style, you need to think about the time involved.
