I used to think people who said they like being pregnant are liars. How can you really like it? What's to like? You have a big belly, lots of extra weight and you're tired all the time. How can you like a life like that?
Then
I got pregnant. I loved it. Sure, you are tired, hungry and large, but
you have a baby reminding you they are there by little kicks and
flutters. You get to wear cute maternity clothes and people give you
loving glances. You also burn calories like a blazing fire and you can
eat an extra piece of cake just because. Above all those reasons, I
liked being pregnant because it wasn't hard for me to become so.
There
are thousands and thousands of women who wish they could be me when I
am pregnant. They spend hours on their knees praying and hours at their
doctor's office. They would be perfect mother's, but their bodies just
won't cooperate. Some share their stories, some sorrow in silence. They
wait and wait for their day of motherhood to arrive as women all around
them welcome children into the world.
Because I know of these
women and respect them and their situations, I love being pregnant. I
have no business complaining of my child bearing when they would give
almost anything to be in my situation.
Morning sickness? So
what? At least I get a baby out of it. Stretch marks? Bring them on. I
am able to conceive children with such little effort so I can handle
some stretch marks.
I hope there are more of me that like being
pregnant. I hope there are more of me that respect those who hope their
day will come. I hope there are more of me that wonder at the miracle
and have reverence for their special duty of bringing children into
this world.
