The Obama campaign's competence astonished me. Not just the staying on course, but their skill at activism and mobilizing people convinced me deeply that people can step up and be part of a real participatory democracy. Now the change.gov site has got me even more convinced.  The work won't stop - there is plenty to be done!   I really believe we can all be part of it.

Congratulations Obama! No matter who we voted for we have to admit this is history in the making right now. I have to admit this is so amazing and wonderful. So many people thought this would not have happend an african-american man being elected president. Times really have changed and we have come a long way. It gives me hope for my children's future and mine as well.

Is it wrong that I'm secretly very happy this Election Day is over?

My emotions are mixed, both happy and sad for so many reasons.

Now we try to heal the wounds of this country. :)

Usually victory speeches are like big toasts/celebrations. Obama was strong but noticeably unecstatic. Let me amend that: more measured with is jubilation. He really pounded in what needs to happen. We now have the CHANCE for greatness. Very distinct.

What was Sam Perry doing there with the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Oprah? Did anyone else see that? Way to go Sam! Oh to have been a fly on the wall...

A commentator at BET just said, "America was reborn today."

BET will be showing a special tomorrow night about the First Black President.

Still no coherent words. I promise to have them tomorrow.

Now they are showing a slide show of images from Pres. elect Obama's life,

Stunned.

"And while she's no longer with us, I know my grandmother's watching. To my sister Maya, my sister Ama,

To my campaign manager David Plum, who built the best political campaign I think in the history of the United States of America. To my chief strategist David Axelrod. To the best campaign team ever assembled in the history of American politics.

I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to. It belongs to you. I was never the likeliest candidate for this office. Our campaign was not hatched in the halls of Congress. It was in the backyards of Des Moines...working people who dug into their pockets to give $5, $10.

"For the millions of Americans who organized...who proved that more than 200 years later, a government by the people, of the people and for the people has not perished from the earth."

You didn't do this just to win an election. We know that [we're facing] the two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in history...[talks about soldiers waking up on the other side of the earth]...we may not get there in one year or even in one term but I know we will get there.

This victory alone is not the change we seek. It is the opportunity to make that change. . . . So let us summon a new spirit. Of patriotism. Of responsibility. And to look not only after ourselves, but each other. In this country we rise or fall as one nation. Let's remember it was a man from this state who first carried the Republican banner to the White House.

While the Democratic Party has won a victory, let us carry it with humility.

To those Americans whose support I have yet to earn. I hear you...I will be your president too.

To those who would tear the world down, we will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security, we support you.

"If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still wonders at the power of Democracy, tonight is your answer."

"Americans who sent a message to the world, that we have never been just a collection of states, of red states and blue states, we are and always have been the United States."

"It's been a long time coming. But tonight, because of what we did on this day at this election on this defining moment, change has come to America."

"A little bit earlier this evening I received an extraordinarily gracious call from Sen. McCain. He fought long and hard in this campaign. He has fought longer and harder for the country that he loves....I congratulate him. I congratulate Gov. Palin. And I look forward to working with him to renew this nation's progress in the months ahead."

As I was voting I remembered my great-grandmother Charlotte. She was 10 years old when Lincoln freed the slaves. She was a Republican or to be more exact, she was with Mr. Lincoln party.

She would not have believed this day could have happened. I understood this place in history and this time. I still need to work on the concept that I have a President. I can stop saying "Occupant."

I'm just overwhelmed.

is prepared to organize these millions of voters to move forward and WORK on making a difference in this country. Watching these acres of people amassed in Chicago, in New York, in Atlanta, you name it, this is the ONLY way to improve savings by Americans, to reduce energy consumption, to improve health care -- all the much less sexy, so much more important items that we must achieve as a nation.
