Review: NARS Blush in Mata Hari
There's something about the sleek matte packaging that NARS has that attracts me, and I've always contemplated about getting another blush from them ever since I purchase my NARS blush in the shade Orgasm (Sam did a review here) about 3 years ago now? - That's a long time. I know... but any of my closest friends can vouch for the fact that I take foreverrrr to make a decision to purchase something or not and this can be a good and a bad thing. haha.
One of my best friends, Ting, was super sweet and got me an new addition to the blush collection as part of my christmas gift, so welcome to the family, Mata Hari!
About and Packaging
The blush is the perfect definition of a pale dusty rose colour, and contrary to what's seen on the internet, the blush isn't as bright. Unlike the blush in Orgasm, the blush is matte and hence doesn't contain any flakes of silver/gold or shimmer at all.
The packaging is no different from any other NARS products. The sleek matte case that encloses the blush is very durable within one's makeup drawer and with experience, there's no fading of the logo or scratches even after 3 years! It also comes with a mirror which makes it great for traveling or doing makeup on the go.
Texture and Swatches
It is a very buildable shade and whilst picking up the product on my finger tips to swatch , it was incredibly smooth and didn't give off the cheap powdery feel like some matte blushes tend to do. There's no scent to the blushes and I use about two light taps onto the blush and its more than enough to cover both my cheeks! That's how pigmented the product is.
Colour payoff and Lasting power
This photograph shows the blush when it was freshly applied, it gives the look of having ran a couple laps around the track minus the sweat. It's great for bringing some life onto my face into the morning's when I've got an early class and I look incredibly tired.
Towards the end of the day, (Sorry about the lighting and angle change, This show was taken 7 hours later) The pink has settled into a very subtle flush, I know it's not as obvious in the photograph, but there's enough blush to look like you've got some colour on your cheeks. Usually with other blushes, there's not a trace of it left on my face , well.... except maybe some specks of glitter.
Before and After
Ok, I'll be honest, even after reading a couple of reviews on the net that claim it last throughout the day, I didn't believe it. The only blush I've tried lately and has lasted through the whole day, was Sam's chanel blush in accent.
The lasting power of the NARS blush took me by surprised and lasted me a whole 7 hours! It's an oddly satisfying feeling to see that your blush comes up on your cotton pad whilst removing your makeup hehe.
I am really happy with the blush and will no doubt be getting a lot of use from it for the next couple of months. It's also the perfect shade for you ladies who are looking into getting out of drugstore beauty goodies and are looking for a blush that doesn't disappoint!
I am aware that it is a little pricey, but ask either Sam or I, and we'll definitely tell you that it's an investment, we've yet to make a dent in our other NARS blush that Sam got last year and I got 3 years ago.
- A staple blush for everyday use
- All skin tones
Would I repurchase?
I am already looking into other cheek products from NARS (signs of a makeup junkie right here) perhaps the infamous bronzer in Laguna? hahaha As far as repurchasing the same shade , I honestly don't think that day will be near any time soon because NARS blushes last A LONG TIME.
