"Right" Age to get Married
"Right age to get married" it a topic that is widely discussed by family and friends here in Belarus.
For starters I was 17 when I met my future husband. He was 18. We had our ups and downs and then he proposed - I was 18 soon to be 19 and he was 2 days shy of his 20th birthday. Many said that we were too young to get married - these were our American friends - FINALLY - is what our Russian friends said. So why the big difference in reactions you ask? Well for one, the cultural differences. Second, life priorities.
Cultural Differeces: Here if a girl is over the age of 21 - people begin to say that she will never get married. Prime age is 17-20. In the US if a girl is younger then 25 then she is too young to get married. For guys its the same everywhere - it doesnt matter how old or young they are - its okay to get married.
Life Priorities: Belarusian people focus mainly on building/starting a family first and then going up the career ladder. Its the opposite in the US - first career - and then once that is in order - family.
What age do you think is the "right" age to get married at?
