We're in the middle of our inaugural spring road trip, rambling around central Oregon. It's farm stands and small towns, the grass fields making my nose itch, the diner food making -- well, it's making me fat, but I can't resist the fries or the onion rings, they taste like the open road. Last night we roamed the broad avenues of Salem, Oregon's capital, the day before we took the back roads through little towns with fancy brick facades along main streets.
There are loads of websites that will help you with practical advice for your highway and byway adventures -- get your rig tuned up and road ready, if you're traveling solo take a cell phone and check in regularly -- but not while you're driving, please, pack for changing conditions, especially if you're going somewhere remote. Just google for "road trip" and you'll end up with useful information.
But road trip stories make for fun reading, no matter how the trip is set up, a weekend or an epic journey, Easy Rider or Lost in America or Fear and Loathing or hey, the Motorcycle Diaries was a great road trip movie. Here are a few road trip bloggers to whet your thirst for the open road.

- For a reminder that road tripping isn't just a North American pursuit, here's a road trip to Malacca on White Petals and here's Jon and Elaine roadtripping in Africa.
