Does upping your calories when losing weight actually help lose weight?
This was one of the things I read about yesterday when trying to process why the scale wasn't showing any changes. And, heck, I don't know the answer, but I do know that my eating had become a bit on the sparse side - lots of Subway turkey breast subs with extra veggies, less protein than I usally like, and so on. I also knew that I wasn't really doing anything big time in the fitness arena, though I have had a cold.
Today, I came across a blog post with a recipe for cottage cheese banana oatmeal pancakes with peanut butter. I don't like pancakes, but these sounded good so I cooked some up, shared them with my ravenous toddlers and....was pleased. The peanut butter was a really nice treat in the morning.
I've never been a breakfast person and I've been having breakfast because there are positive correlations between it and weight loss, but it really doesn't do anything for me. Today was different and I find myself looking forward to it tomorrow.
And then! And then I dared to click on Level 3 of Jillian's Shred DVD instead of the Level 2 that I've been flopping through. It was fun! In part, it's fun because the pressure is off to do things well - I feel like I only need to do things to survive.
But, you know what - my cardio scene has improved and I could do all the cardio stuff pretty well (aside from my cough) and I loved the jumping stuff (even though I failed immensely at sticking with it and doing it well). It was a nice change of pace and I felt good afterwards that I'd done something that I once assumed was unattainable.
I still wouldn't want any video cameras on me during the workout, but I did okay.
And then at lunch, I put on some snow pants that haven't been able to zip up the side of my thighs in a long long time. That was a very nice little treat.
So, tomorrow, bring on the Rock Star jumps! (I was a bit like an elephant doing them, but I figure I can only get better).
And, as for calories? I am really curious what calories I should be eating to keep things plugging along. And I am still tempted by the brownies (of which I already helped myself to a small portion). But for now, I will stick to around what I'm doing and try to build in more of the proteins which sit well with me and just go with the flow.
