Romney Launches Women for Mitt Coalition

Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney recently announced his Women for Mitt Coalition as part of nine communities where he's bolstering support, from Young Americans to Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

His wife, Ann, leads the women's coalition with an all-star advisory board including former secretary of state (and former longshot veep candidate) Condoleeza Rice, along with many current and former stateswomen.

"I'm proud to be heading up this effort to reach out to women voters," Ann Romney said. "There is no doubt that women will play a critical role in determining the outcome of this election, and that's something Mitt understands well."

The welcome news comes after the hugely successful BlogHer '12 in New York City, where Romney Deputy National Coalitions Director, Courtney Johnson, discussed the importance of women in politics. No doubt women at the conference took note of their crucial role.

Even President Obama took the time to woo the 5,000-plus crowd during opening remarks, a get that the top enchiladas of this fine publishing network should celebrate.

Plenty of bloggers highlighted President Obama's address in their post-conference recaps.

Here's why: women make up 55 percent of the electorate and incidentally, according to PunditMom, 75 percent of so-called mommy bloggers always vote.

The Romney strategy to win over women works in a two-fold fashion - public appearances with Ann Romney and others from the coalition and online contact via social media and other remote access, like Women for Mitt text updates.

As we learned from Johnson during her panel, Facebook's Women for Mitt page with more than 66,000 likes so far has been their most successful means to reach women voters.

There's also grassroots efforts on other pages, like Moms for Mitt and Women for Romney 2012, Moms for Mitt Romney, plus groups Women for Mitt Romney, Women FOR Romney/ Ryan 2012, and Stay at Home Moms for Ann Romney 2012.

Men or women, Romney's message focuses largely on the dismal economy and with Rep. Paul Ryan on the ticket, you can bet that's exactly where they will continue to apply pressure.

He'd be foolish not to hammer the jobs, jobs, jobs message.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, between January 2009 and March 2012, there has been a net decline of 740,000 jobs for both men and women, and that among women, there has been a net loss of 683,000 jobs.

Even more distressing, recent U.S. Census' Survey of Income and Program Participation figures estimate more than 100 million Americans are on some form of federal government assistance.

The Senate Budget Committee estimates that spending on food stamps alone could reach $800 billion over the next decade.

Compare that to just 2007, when the last Census data showed minority and women-owned businesses on the rise.

Whatever the desperate distractions from Obama about Bain and tax disclosures, he cannot hide from a record of utter economic failure that by his own admission to TODAY Show's Matt Lauer not long after assuming office, should equate getting fired in November: "If I don't have this done in three years, then there's gonna be a one-term proposition."
