Rose-Colored Glasses: My Favorite Tints and Stains

BlogHer Original Post

For as long as I've been wearing makeup, I've been obsessed with lip/cheek stains and tints. This is likely due to the fact that I technically wasn't ALLOWED to wear makeup until I was 16, and I used tints and stains to slyly get by my Mom, all, "WHAT? I'm NOT WEARING LIPSTICK, SEE??" and swipe my hand across my seemingly-bare (yet obviously colored) lips as proof. Sneaky, sneaky, me.

While I do have some favorite powder blushes and lip glosses (of course), I've never gotten away from my tint fixation. It's a timeless, seasonless look, is goof-proof, and flatters everyone. Since I've spent (literally) years searching for the perfect stain, I've whittled my favorites in each format (stick, gel, etc.), and would like to share them with you:

LIQUID: BeneFit Posietint

Benefit's BeneTint is one of the first tints I remember seeing on the market eons ago, however, Posietint -- a newer entry in the market -- is a lot less....STRESS-INDUCING. Benetint is a dark! berry! shade, and you have to act fast with it, lest you end up with weird splotches on your cheeks. Posietint is a lighter, "poppy" pink that seamlessly blends and brightens. And LASTS. I wear this every day.

GEL: Sephora  Lush Flush ($12)

I have this in the "Wine" shade.) I use this as a "going out"-type shade, and  It has a soft, doe-foot applicator, which makes this a snap to perfectly blend onto both lips and cheeks.

SOLID/BUTTER: Korres Lip Butter ($10)

I have this in the "Wild Rose" shade.) I had actually initially purchased this for use solely as a tinted lip balm, but a number of people online and off have extolled its virtues as a sheer cheek color, as well. I love this when I want a subtle glow, as well; the shea butter in the gloss imparts a soft shine.

What are your favorite tints/stains?
