When I attended the ZOOMA expo, I was chit chatting up a storm with the representative from MDA or Muscular Dystrophy Association.

mda

I don’t have any connections with anyone with this disease but my heart fell to the floor.

My worldly wish would be that we are all okay.

That our only battle is mental and not physical. That our hearts could be lead another way..but it’s just not and it doesn’t seem fair.

I did some research online and found some disturbing facts through the Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention:

  • The yearly average cost in 2004 for medical care for privately insured individuals with any type of muscular dystrophy was $18,930, ranging from $13,464 at 5 through 9 years of age to $32,541 at 15 through 19 years of age.
  • An estimated 1 of every 5,600 to 7,700 males 5 through 24 years of age had DBMD
  • More than a million Americans are living with life-threatening muscle disease
  • What other parts of the body can be affected? Brain, Throat, Heart, Diaphragm/Chest Muscles, Stomach, Intestines, Spine

After watching a very touching video about Cooper…(warning: grab tissues)

I emailed the representative and asked what I can do.

She replied: run.

Uhm, okay! I love to run!

Now here’s where things get a bit shaky for me…

I committed to raising $600 and run with the MDA team at the Marine Corps Marathon. I’m totally freaking out. I have never raised a dime in my life.

Okay, not true. I was a girl scout and we all know they come with delicious cookies, but still!

Think outside the box:

If you yourself can make a donation or if you know someone who can…

If you know a company that would be willing…

If you can’t and you could just hit the share button and blast some friends…

If you could join with me in this fight…

We can and will make a difference.

As a token of gratitude:

I am writing anyone who donates “name” on my body at the race.  That’s right, you are running with me! :)

Thank you for taking the time to read this and please share.
