SAD

Let's be real, people. This time of year sucks. It's gray, it's cold, and if you're me, you're faced with the option of getting frostbite outside with your temperature-immune toddler or being stuck in the house with your stir-crazy toddler. I'm not one of those magic moms with tons of creative crafts and indoor activities in my arsenal, and frankly I don't even have the motivation to Pinterest them. I mean, yesterday we made cookies, but I proceeded to eat half the dough while moodily staring out the window. You might say I'm a little SAD, as in, seasonal affective disordered. I can feel this condition coming on when I want to start drinking Merlot and watching Bravo at 9:30 a.m.

So, I'm writing this post to encourage myself and my fellow SAD sacks. Here are some suggestions of things you can do to brighten your mood.

1) Go to the mall and eavesdrop on the ridiculous conversations occurring around you. Or count the number of asinine children's names you hear. If you live in a heavily Caucasian area, this should require very little effort.

2) Stage a family photo shoot, but be sure the pictures are as hideous and awkward as possible. Kind of like these:

 

 
 
 
 



3) Write a fanfic about yourself where all your wildest hopes and dreams come true. I actually wrote one where I sleep for a thousand years and then wake up in my new home which is an H&M that is also full of donuts.

4) Take up a new hobby like painting crap while you drink wine or salsa dancing, if you're into that sort of thing. I *personally* would choose something a little more productive like stalking the various "Teen Moms" on Instagram and Twitter, because no self-respecting person would actually FOLLOW them, right??

5) Re-read some literature from your past that you've enjoyed to experience warm, nostalgic feelings. For myself that would be classics such as Heidi and The Secret Garden. Ok I lied, Sweet Valley High and The Baby-Sitters Club.
