I was writing an email to my sister, and I said for the umpteenth time "I'm fine, I'm fine, really I'm fine" and it dawned on me that inside I was anything but fine. I remembered very clearly watching Sally Field in one of the last few scenes of "Steel Magnolias" standing in the cemetery yelling that she was fine. I remember the lump in my throat as she screamed it, her pain, visceral and blinding, touching some part of me.
Yes, Sally Field and I have something in common.
We're both fine.
