Salt Dough Ornaments–Tutorial

- 3 cups of flour
- 1 cup of table salt
- 1 + cups of hot water (tap not boiling)
Needed Items -
- Salt dough
- Cookie sheet
- Cookie cutter or knife
- Rolling pin
- Cute baby
Combine the flour and salt and mix together with a fork. Add the hot water. Start with one cup and then add a little at a time until the dough no longer sticks to the side of the bowl. If you add to much water and the dough gets sticky just add a little more flour.
Roll out the dough on a cookie sheet to your desired thickness. I did it exactly like I would sugar cookies. I aimed for 1/4 inch thickness. (Thicker is better when drying) Press your baby’s hand or foot into the rolled dough. We did toes because it’s what E wanted to do!
Cut away the excess with a cookie cutter or a knife. Use a straw to poke a hole in the ornament for a ribbon.
You can either let them air dry or bake them for 30 minutes at 200 degrees.
You can make the dough ahead of time as well. Just wrap it in plastic wrap and place in an air tight container.
After they dry I’m going to take write E’s name and the year on them with a paint pen. They are going to make great gifts for E’s great grandparents.
