Santa’s Bag – a Christmas gift list app for iPhone

Hello Camp Mommawatchi friends! I just have to share my favorite iPhone app with all of you – Santa’s Bag. I first found out about it on Pinterest, and I have never been so excited about an app before.  I knew that this app would be such a time-saver with my Christmas gift list.

Every Christmas season, my husband and I come up with a budget for our Christmas shopping. In the past, I had my paper list with tons of notes. After I bought gifts, I’d come home to write down my purchases, and I would have to figure out the tax for each gift as well. This was a bit time-consuming to say the least.

This year, I will have everything organized in one spot on my iPhone. The app allows you to set an overall budget for your shopping. You will find this on the “Summary” page. There is also a “Countdown to Christmas” here. Next,on the ”Recipients” page, you will add your gift recipients and their individual budgets. The app allows you to add a photo of each recipient. Whenever you buy a gift for that person, you will type in the gift and price. It will also add tax for you! (The photo below is a generic photo, not mine personally.)

Sometimes, you may see something while shopping and think, “That would be perfect for my niece (mom, brother, etc.)”. Simply take a picture of the item, and then add it to the “Wish” list section for that person. Then you can go back and buy the gift closer to Christmas.

The little icons by each item are:

  • a shopping basket (purchased gift)
  • a gift (you’ve wrapped the gift)
  • a check mark (you’ve given the gift)
  • a heart (wishes)

You can also add the store where you purchased it. When you first look at the store options, it only lists Apple Store and iTunes. Click the + button to add a new store. This could be helpful if you need to return an item or need to go back and find the item later. I will probably not worry about marking the item “wrapped,” since I usually wrap all of my gifts at the same time.

There are other options as well, such as adding a passcode for “snooping” children! It appears that you can upgrade to “Pro” and be able to archive your gifts, backup and restore your data, and remove the ads.

Cost of the app is free. You can download it here:

This app is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Requires iOS5 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
