Santorum's Big Night: The March 13 Primaries in Tweets

Surprising pollsters who had him in third place, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum won the nomination for the Republican candidate for the presidency in the Alabama and Mississippi primary elections Tuesday night. Gingrich finished close on Santorum's heels in second, and Romney -- who outspent both Gingrich and Santorum in both states -- came in third. Romney won the Hawaii and American Samoa caucuses, and still picked up the most delegates last night.

Many pundits Tuesday night said the GOP primary is now a "two-man race" -- Romney vs. Santorum -- but last night, Gingrich told Fox News that he does not intend to quit.

The Huffington Post reported last night that a senior Santorum advisor said that the campaign "campaign likes the idea of Rick Santorum and Gingrich running on the same ticket for the presidency and vice presidency."

Looking ahead, next week's Illinois primary looks to be a close race.
