Say "Thank YOU"! Today is World Gratitude Day!

National Potato Chips Day? National Poultry Day? National Peculiar People Day? Old Rocks Day? Really?? Who thinks of this stuff and, furthermore, who celebrates them? Well, I’m not sure, but here’s a day we should ALL celebrate...every day...World Gratitude Day!

The idea behind World Gratitude Day was to give people an opportunity to show their appreciation and gratitude for everything in their lives. I’m not sure whom to thank (no pun intended!) for founding World Gratitude Day (I found different information about the origin), but it doesn’t really matter because it’s a great reminder to count your blessings and be grateful for all of the good stuff in your life.

World Gratitude Day
"Some people grumble that roses have thorns;World Gratitude Day
...I am grateful that thorns have roses." -Alphonse Karr

Have you ever been around people who never have anything nice to say about anyone or anything? Yeah, I know...I avoid them, too... And have you noticed how contagious and toxic it can be? Well, we can turn that around...instead of pointing fingers, blaming everything and everyone else, and whining and complaining, isn’t saying thank you and showing a  little gratitude a good thing? That can be contagious, too! Can’t change others, but we can certainly change our attitude to gratitude, can’t we? Cup half empty cup half full...I say go with gratitude and half full.

World Gratitude Day
"When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed." - Maya Angelou

You’ve heard all the slogans, proverbs, etc. before about being thankful...but do you say or, for that matter, do you hear “thank you” enough? Everyone is soooo busy...has it become easy to take things for granted? Do you notice the efforts of others? Do you just complain when something goes wrong? Are certain people invisible to you? Do you thank the garbage collector or the mailman? What about public servants? What about friends or family?

World Gratitude Day

“Piglet noticed that even though he had a Very Small Heart, it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude.”

– A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh

How do you show your appreciation and thanks? A smile? A note? A message? A gesture? Wasn’t that easy? Make someone’s day today – say thank you.  Pass it works wonders!

Oh, and before I forget, a heartfelt thank YOU to YOU! YOU are definitely  one of the many reasons I feel gratitude today.

When's the last time you heard "thank you"? What are you grateful for today?
