Screen Time: Kids and Technology
By DaphneMichelle on December 01, 2013
The American Academy of Pediatrics just recently updated their recommendations on screen time for children and their use of technology.
I recently interviewed Eric Klopfer, MIT Professor and Director of the MIT Scheller Teacher Education Program about the AAP's recommendations. He stated that while recommendations were thoughful that he felt that the AAP didn't differitiate between types/uses of technology. He pointed out that not all screen time can be treated equally. For example, watching mindless hours of videos can not be compared to though provoking, brain teasing games on devices.
In below interview he shares he thoughts on when the right time to introduce children to technology, technology use, and ways parents can stay connected with children with the use of technology.
