(VIDEO) SEC Employees View Up to Eight Hours of Porn a Day While the Financial Sector Implodes

How much porn would you say would be a lot of porn to view ... during work? If you work for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) -- you know, that government agency that is supposed to be overseeing the financial sector (um ... you know the financial sector, right? It's the one that's currently imploding under scandals) -- you might be peeking at porn up to eight hours a day. Or 16,000 times per month.

No wonder our country is in a financial crisis. Instead of bonds on the mind, the workers at SEC were thinking about bondage.

Gawker posted a lovely visual containing the URLs of sites accessed on SEC computers, including ladyboyjuice.com, scatmen.com, and adultfriendfinder.com. And they point out that this isn't "new" news -- people have been writing about the pornography problem at the SEC for months. But where America has seen the tip of the iceberg in the past, today, citizens got a sense of how much ice is also under the water.

And it's enough porn to sink the Titanic.

In the past two and a half years since this current financial crisis started, 31 probes have been launched investigating the viewing of inappropriate materials at the SEC. According to Forbes, "Seventeen of the employees were 'at a senior level,' earning salaries of up to $222,418." And all of this porn watching ... er ... and subsequent activities from porn watching ... were done on the taxpayer dime.

Enraged? Tell us what you think below.

I got nothin' for that - that's just really messed up. I guess if you can get away with it, you go hog wild.

What about the guy though who filled his whole hard drive. HIS WHOLE HARD DRIVE. And had additional boxes of CDs where he had burned images.

I filled my hard drive with photos. It took 5 years. And...you know...they were family photos and all. But damn, that is a lot of photos, Mr. SEC.

Honestly, I think they just opened a window and kept it hidden all day, not necessarily staring and wanking all day, but just maximizing the window when they figured it was all clear. One could inadvertently log a lot of porn hours that way.

So yeah, you could call that multitasking.

Le sigh...

The Bankers and Financial Goons knew that they were in a highly permissive environment. Those people learned nothing from the 2000-2002 financial meltdown. The revolving door had former friends at the SEC.

Guys watching porn at work is nothing new. 40 hours of it a work week for months at a time is mind boggling.

The fellas would have burned through the freebies had to be going to the groady stuff. There might be some criminal charges heading their way that isn't so funny.

50 weeks X-Tube and still wasn't satisfied? Dang! The thought of being their office assistant? Ewww...

True--I wonder how much of the exact same thing was going on at Goldman Sachs, et al.

One notable difference is the idea of the "parent" being irresponsible. If the SEC is supposed to be overseeing business and keeping them in line, it becomes more noteworthy that they're engaging in distractions. In the same way that it would be more newsworthy if a police officer was watching porn in his car instead of watching for and ticketing speeders than if people were driving in cars, watching porn.

I certainly don't defend these people surfing for porn, but for me this is a big red herring the investment banks are tossing out there to divert attention from the real problem. Like the SEC is the only workplace where this is a problem? I hardly think so.

Snorted with the first line, Gena :-)

It is possible that we're seeing addiction, and then, it's a different beast. Someone who showed up drunk to work because they were an alcoholic would probably be fired, but we'd talk about the firing very differently.

But I'm getting a whiff here of some of it being that old-boy's-club mentality and a chance that those high-up the chain of command were a little high on power and abused their post. Even when it's not absolute power, power still corrupts.

Access to T-1 lines must have made the fellas crazy. That and knowing SEC investigation and enforcement was not a requirement of the job.

I worked in a place where a programmer was given multiple warnings not to access diddle vision on the job.

You did not want to be the female person to have to go to his cubicle. Icky does not begin to approach that challenge.

There was one more warning. Fool laid low for eight days or so and then he was back in the saddle. He was fired.

Some of this is addition. Some of this is just being bone stupid. Head bone stupid to be precise.

Could it also be that folks were selected because it was hoped that they did not investigate or enforce existing laws on the books?

Naw. Horn dogs are easier to understand.

Cracking up over the visual of all these kids lined up in the hallway to receive their vaccination.

Seriously isn't there a vaccination we can give guys when they hit puberty to prevent them from catching the porn bug? I am sick of sex constantly making men stupid.

I'm sort of surprised by the idea that they could grab that much time. Don't they have meetings? Or did they multitask and download porn during meetings?

I wish I were more surprised by this. Seriously - what is wrong with people? Does anyone have any work ethics anymore? I used to shorten my lunch hour if I spent too much time on my favorite feminist blogs at work.

Maybe these guys took some extra work home, to make up for the time. You think?

Heh.

I think 8 hours a day is a lot even if you're doing it at home, but seriously, how do you carve out that much time in an office?

Look, the obvious, it's wrong. Very wrong to not only be dicking off (pun intended) during your working hours, you know the ones where someone is paying you to do the job you signed up for, but this is just disgusting.

Really boys and girls? Can't we hold off for 8 or 9 or 10 hours per day? C'mon...

Very true. Though seriously, 8 hours of porn at work? Who the hell can grab 8 hours of alone time at work? And how raw must that man have been by the end of the day...

...about "31 probes."

The idea of government as a watchdog is one that offers false security. Anything run by humans, whether it's a company or a government agency, will get both the best and the worst of us.

Wherever we go, there we are.
