"Sweet are the uses of adversity,/Which, like the toad, ugly and venomous,/Wears yet a precious jewel in his head."

These lines are by Shakespeare. I found them in a book, Leaves of Gold, an anthology of famous quotes that belonged to my grandmother. I remember her often leafing through the book. Today I so wish I could sit beside her and listen to her words of comfort and encouragement. I am sure she could make me believe there is a "precious jewel" to be found, although just now such a possibility seems so remote.
