Do you struggle with God in prayer?

I was listening to a Christian radio program while driving home the other day, and started thinking about how I often struggle with God over things in prayer.  Sometimes that can be a good thing! ...more

My life is funnier when I'm depressed

So I'm new, obviously...I have my personal blog and I'm waiting for it to be listed with BlogHer, but in the meantime, here I am. My blog, depressionsandconfessions.com, started as a way for me to reach out to other women with depression, but has evolved into a sort of journal of my personal story about living with the disorder....more

She Works Hard for the Money

Every time I tell someone what I do for a living, I get the same reaction: ‘You have the greatest job’, they tell me. ‘Um, it is a lot of hard work. But I guess it is OK.’ I reply....more

Week-a-versary

Yesterday was our one week anniversary.  Or, as Alexis put it, our Week-a-versary.  So we’ve been married for one week.  And boy, it’s been a week.  An amazing week, but a week nonetheless. So, as an impromptu Week-a-versary activity, Chris and I went to the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk.  And also got Chriso’s phone from the Red Cross that he left at work the night before.  Yup.  We were all booked up. ...more

These days, as you stroll out into the single scene, you just might want to dangle your group health insurance card as a tantalizing offering to the opposite sex. For maximum appeal, make sure the side with the co-pay amount is clearly visible....more

diamonds

Where do you get your diamonds?  Are they certified by the Kimberley Process as "conflict free" diamonds?  If so, you've purchased a sense of well being, but KP authentication is no guarantee of a bloodless sparkly.  The Kimberley Process certification "guarantees" that certain diamonds don't come from conflict countries.  If you only buy KP diamonds, the thinking goes, you'll have avoided funding bloody revolutions and enslaving minors.  Sweet....more

Happy Anniversary, Baby?

Last weekend, my husband was driving us back from a night in the city. I can’t remember the conversation between the kids and I, but when Bruce chimed in, his words tumbled out indecipherable. Syllabic babble. We poked huge amounts of fun at him before he could laugh at himself....more
