I went to Mardi Gras this past weekend. I took my daughter out of school for two days so she could attend as well. She was born and raised in New Orleans and we recently moved from there to a small town.

We still have friends and one family member still there, so we had plenty of places to stay and plenty of things to catch up on.

My friend's daughter (who's 16) and I went downtown on Sunday night to catch Bacchus as it rolled down Canal Street.

The streets were already getting crowded when we arrived and I knew it was just a matter of it getting worse once the Super Bowl was over. The parade hadn't made it down our way yet (it was only 8 pm) and we weren't expecting it until later.

We found a place where we wanted to catch the parade. It was near on Canal Street near Magazine. We pulled out a poncho to sit down on while we waited. We started talking about college and boys and all that stuff that's interesting to 16 year olds when V's (the 16 year old) eyes went wide and she said "Oh My God". I turned quickly to look behind me to see what was happening. There was a man down on the ground and he was seizing. There were people starting to crowd around him and a guy was yelling for someone to call an ambulance. There were a couple of ladies who were helping the guy down on the ground. The seizure stopped for a few minutes but started back up before the ambulance could get there. The ambulance eventually arrived and several cops were surrounding both the man on the street and the ambulance. They were directing traffic away from the scene and trying to get people to stay out of the way.

This is the part that gets me angry. Angry at the stupidity and callousness of some people out in the world today.

There is an ambulance with all it's lights going (but no siren, obviously) and the doors thrown open, there are paramedics surrounding a man on the street. There's a puddle of blood near the man on the street and there's cops diverting foot traffic away from the scene.

It's obvious there's something going on that needs both medical and police attention. Yet, IDIOTS, of all races and both genders would repeatedly walk up to the cops and ask them some inane question like "Where's Bourbon Street" and "Where can I cross to get to the other side of the street" (the streets are barricaded on the parade route), "Where's the Hustler Club", "When is the parade getting here", etc......That's bad enough, but then when the cops rebuff them and tell them to keep moving, they actually GET ANGRY at the cop for doing their job and protecting the scene of an injury. Some of them started yelling at the cops. Most would walk around muttering about the stupidity and unhelpful nature of New Orleans cops.

SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?!?!? I mean, it was SOOOO friggin' obvious that they were busy. One guy even walked right past the cop and went up to the paramedic to ask him!!!!!

I know this is minor when compared to other things, but it's just another example at the selfishness and stupidity of some people.
