SheaMoisture Natural Skincare Review
By mindbodywell on December 05, 2012
The story behind the brand is really quiet sweet; “Sofi Tucker began selling Shea nuts at the village market in Bonthe, Sierra Leone in 1912. By age 19, the widowed mother of four was selling Shea Butter, African Black Soap and homemade preparations.”
Tested on four generations of Sofi’s family, SheaMoisture is now run by her grandchildren who continue to use natural, certified organic ingredients that are globally sourced through Fair Trade.
So now that you have the background on the brand, I wanted to share with you with what really drew me to the brand besides that fact that their products are natural and operated by a family business.
Their products contain none of the following harsh ingredients found in most conventional products on the market today:
- No Sulfates
- No Parabens
- No Phthalates
- No Dioxane
- No Propylene Glycol
- No Mineral Oil
- No Synthetic Fragrance
- No PABA
- No Synthetic Color
- No DEA
- No Animal Testing
I don’t know about you but being a holistic minded individual and going through a huge lifestyle overhaul has been very important to me especially since I am pregnant.
I decided to try the Raw Shea & Aragan Oil Collection for Dry, Damaged Hair since my hair is always on the dry side. Let me just premise this review with the word WHOA! That’s right, I was completely blown away from the scent, which lingers longer than any product I’ve ever used. To the fact that the shampoo lathers in the most amazing way I’ve never seen a shampoo without lauryl sulfates do and leaves my hair super soft and supple.
I followed up with the Restorative Conditioner, which you only need a dime size amount of and for me that’s saying a LOT, since I normally use a quarter size or more. Unless you have longer hair, mine is shoulder length or it’s extremely damaged you really do not need a lot to see a difference.
Post-shower, I was actually able to put a brush through my hair without having to spend extra time working out tangles. I’ve used the two products for a consecutive three days and can really vouch that my hair does look and feel different. As with most other natural products that lack the harsh chemicals and synthetics that are said to keep our hair cleaner, longer I didn’t notice that I needed to wash more often – something I’ve seen with other brands that have left my hair greasy after just a day post wash.
So if you reside in New York or plan to visit this holiday season, make sure you stop by the SheaMoisture booth at Bryant Park where you can test and purchase three products for $25 until January 8th.
In addition to receiving samples of products for myself, I also picked up baby products from the SheaMoisture Baby collection, which I am eager to try once our baby arrives in February – so stay tuned for a full review.
And if you are looking for natural men’s products for your spouse, partner, brother, etc. then check out their SheaMoisture Men’s Shave collection. My husband is currently using their Shave & Beard lifter scrub, which is said to get rid of black heads so stay tuned for his review.
Disclosure: I was not paid by SheaMoisture to write this review. The opinions stated here are mine and mine alone.
