Sparkle (1)
I can trace this dislike of chocolate back to my childhood. Months after Halloween and Christmas, you could still find me with holiday chocolate stashed away, at least the chocolate that my family didn't find and steal. I rarely ate more than the ears on my Easter bunnies. (What is about the ears? You just have to nibble on them.) And Valentine's Day? Well, I have to say it was easy to figure out which boyfriend didn't listen to me when he showed up with a box of chocolates, expecting me to be thrilled. Ditto the guy who bought me a chocolate birthday cake.

Not liking chocolate makes me a horrible dinner guest. Everyone is supposed to like chocolate so it's the perfect dessert for company but nothing makes my heart sink faster than being at someone's place for dinner and having them pull out what they consider to be the crowing glory of their meal -- a concoction that never seems to involve less than five different kinds of chocolate. No, I don't tell my host in advance that I don't like chocolate. I'm really not a dessert person in general, and I don't see why people should alter their dessert plans just for me. Once people get past the chocolate thing, they have an even harder time believing that I don't want dessert at all. I've been going over to a friend's place for dinner almost once a month for the last several years, and it's only been in the last year that they've finally embraced that I really mean it when I say I don't often eat dessert.
I know I'm not alone. I know there are others out there, you just need to look for us. See how Barb, Madeline and Sarah all sneak it into their posts? That's how we work. We like to slide it in there under the radar and hope that nobody really notices.
Will I eat chocolate? Sometimes. I can appreciate a nice dark chocolate and I have a soft spot for Kit-Kats since they remind of eating lunch with my best friend in high school. Chocolate just very rarely something I seek out. Whether or not you like something is a preference and I just don't see not liking chocolate any different than not liking oranges or apples. I'm perfectly ok with it -- I just wish everyone else were, too.
Is there something that everyone seems to love but you don't?
