When I was little I watched shows like Star Trek, The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, and Happy Days. With the exception of flying through space at warp speed, and a family band touring on a psychedelic bus, these shows were about normal families, doing normal things.
But television these days is vastly different. Rather than dreaming about being Nancy Drew and working with the Hardy Boys, my children dream about being a superstar. Between Hannah Montana, Victorious, and Big Time Rush, both girls think it seems normal to want to have an entourage, a recording contract, and have a 15-city tour.
