Silicon Valley Rocks, and we'll be there!

Sometimes when looking for relevant sites with whom to swap media for our conferences I also find really cool stuff going on outside the conference realm. Silicon Valley Rocks! is one such cool event that BlogHer is happy to support (and that I look forward to attending).
Silicon Valley Rocks! is the brainchild of one Alison Murdock, formerly with Dealmaker Media. Taking place on December 3rd at the illustrious Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, Silicon Valley Rocks! features a line-up of bands featuring local geeks who just happen to also be musicians. Alison was inspired by the number of people she met in Silicon Valley who loved playing, and continued to gig, even as their tech careers grew more demanding.
She was also inspired by the three years she has herself participated in Ladies Rock Camp (where at least three of us in the BlogHer offices decided we need to go to too!)
That might be enough on its own to get you out there to support them, but wait, there's more! All proceeds for Silicon Valley Rocks! will be donated to Music in Schools Today (MuST). MuST is the Bay Area’s answer to the crisis in music education. Despite extensive research indicating that music instruction supplies intellectual, emotional and physical components critical to children’s development, music and arts programs are often the first victims of budget cuts. MuST advocates for, supports and develops integrated, accessible, sustainable and measurable music-in-education programs that improve student achievement.
Silicon Valley Rocks! is offering a 10% discount to BlogHer, if you click on this link to register. That makes it only $40.50 to hear a great line-up of local talent and support music education in schools at the same time.
So, here's my personal geeky plea: I studied music all throughout high school and college and know first hand the kind of discipline, focus, skill and team work playing in a band or singing in a choir requires. Sounds like the kind of positive attributes some folks tout as being developed by playing sports, no? But available to kids who have a different set of skills and talents.
That's why we were proud to sign BlogHer up as a media sponsor of Silicon Valley Rocks!, and why I'll be there with bells on on December 3rd in San Francisco.
Anyone want to join me?
