Skills for Adulthood

My son leaves for college in just over a month. Thinking about this seems like all I do lately. The older children fledged in a different way and I remember fussing over some of the same things with the now 22-year-old.

Now I am trying to remember all the things I shoved into her head in those last weeks. I am also trying to think of what I might have failed to teach the boy in his 18 years.

I have double-checked that he knows:

1. My views on alcohol and drug use.

2. When to get the oil changed

3. How to check tire pressure (Yes Mom, I learned that at BlogHer!)

4. How to cook the basics (He does and more--he's actually a pretty accomplished cook and knows how to follow a recipe)

5. Wash windows, bedding, and make up a bed

In writing this, it occurs to me that I need to know if he knows how to balance a checkbook, file his taxes, and flip a circuit breaker, turn off water in a house, and clean an oven.

But, what did you get out into the big world as an adult and had to tackle on your own the first time...and then wished someone had taught you how to do it?
