We've had a run of bad sleep over here.
Though I'm not sure exactly why it's started, I do know it coincides perfectly with Daylight Savings. Springing forward has cost me much more than an hour of sleep.
We've been up and up and up. And today was the pinnacle of exhaustion. I spent all day stumbling around in a zombie-like stupor. I truly looked like I was in Adventureland. Crap, that's the wrong Jesse Eisenberg movie. Zombieland. That's the one I looked like I was cast as an extra in. But, really, the movies are so much alike, who wouldn't make that mistake?
After my zombified-self dragged my carcas out of work and lumbered into daycare, I found TRUE HORROR awaiting me there. My son was upbeat, active, and bizarrely amused with himself. I was extremely suspicious. What could a 6 month old do to be this proud of himself?
I prodded the teachers lightly. No new development milestones had been hit. No new foods were tried. They too were surprisingly upbeat for no reason. Now I knew something was up. When they handed me his "activity sheet " for the day, I stuffed it in my pocket in favor of some more gentle interrogation. My mistake.
When I pulled out the activity sheet to study it while the teachers attended to other children, my stomach lurched. It had to be a typo right? It had to be a typo that my 6 month old had only slept for FIFTEEN MINUTES since waking up at 5:45, right? Right?
No. Welcome to no-nap hell. While he was extremely proud of this accomplishment, once he felt he had sufficiently gloated my son crashed into crankytown. He pretty much screamed the whole night. This night was much abbreviated on his end as Sir Crankypants was put to bed early. But still, it was an unpleasant scream-filled mess. Which is a cruel thing to put your zombie mother through.
On the upside he's slept for 5 hours straight so far tonight. Perhaps tomorrow I'll ask them to not let him sleep at all.
